Do you have an emergency savings?
July 01, 2011

Hello again --

Two things got me thinking of you this week,:

1. A phone call from a woman in her sixties and, 2. A Bankrate.com article on emergency savings.

First the phone call. This lady called to ask my advice about not simply investing, but avoiding investing in companies that violate her biblical based beliefs. We had talked earlier about Jay Peroni's Faith Based Investor program. I showcased his valuable service in an article on learning to invest.

Anyways, as the conversation continued, her main concern is having enough savings/income to last her lifetime. With the economy dragging along and draining as it is, and will be for the foreseeable future, I can understand her fears. So, I am helping her to educate her in picking what is right for both her personality and stage in life.

Yet the bottom line is, having a 6 month emergency reserve and not touching it unless it is vitally necessary.

What about you? Do you have an emergency reserve fund set aside? If you commit to the discipline household budget planning, you can. Check out my financial coaching program and see if it is right for you.

In conjunction with this phone conversation I had, Bankrate.com came out with an article stating that 25% of us have absolutely no emergency savings:

Bankrate's Financial Security Index poll for June found 24 percent of Americans have no emergency savings at all. Another 22 percent said their emergency savings would cover, at best, three months' worth of expenses.

Only one in four said they have six months' worth of expenses for use in emergency, the minimum recommended by many financial planning experts.

Again, I ask you. How is YOUR emergency savings doing? If you do not know how to budget, I suggest you get started today.

What do you think? Give me your ideas on how to budget Facebook, Twitter , or by hitting Reply. I look forward to your input!

Until next time .....
